🎶 Curious London: Fun Music & Beer Facts
🍺 Beer once saved London’s water supply.
In the 19th century, beer was often safer to drink than water in London because it was boiled during brewing, killing harmful bacteria. Taverns became community hubs, much like live music venues today.
🎼 Abbey Road isn’t London’s only famous studio.
While The Beatles made Abbey Road iconic, London is also home to Olympic Studios in Barnes, where The Rolling Stones, Queen, and David Bowie recorded legendary tracks.
🍻 London’s oldest surviving pub, The Seven Stars, dates back to 1602.
Located near the Royal Courts of Justice, it’s older than the USA and would have been serving beer while Shakespeare was still alive.
🎵 The world’s oldest surviving recording of a live concert was made in London in 1888.
It captured a performance at the Crystal Palace and was recorded onto wax cylinders, the earliest “live album.”
🍺 Beer and music festivals go way back in London.
The “Frost Fairs” held on the frozen River Thames in the 17th and 18th centuries often featured both with music performances, drinking stalls, and even impromptu stages on the ice.
🎤 Why Music at Twist?
Music is about more than what you hear it’s vibration, emotion, memory, and connection. At Twist, our sound-based installations let you see music through light patterns, feel it through vibrations, and create it in unexpected ways. Combined with a cold craft beer during our evening events, it’s one of the top immersive experiences in the city and easily one of the must-visit London attractions this summer.
